Caravan and Trailer Solar Kits SA: Build Your Ultimate Off-Grid Escape

Caravan & Trailer Solar Kits SA

Stop Chasing Campsite Power Points. Take Full Control of Your Off-Grid Freedom.

You know that feeling. You’ve planned the trip for months, packed the 4×4, hooked up the trailer or caravan, and driven four hundred kilometers into the heart of the bush. The sun sets, the stars come out, and you reach into the camp fridge for an ice-cold drink—only to discover the fridge compressor cut out three hours ago because your auxiliary battery died on the dirt road.

Perhaps your search for the next vacation spot includes “must have a power point” or a generator to ensure you have power to enjoy your holiday.

At Caravan and Trailer Solar Kits SA (a specialized division of Solar & Battery), we build systems so that story never happens to you. Whether you’re setting up camp in Kgalagadi, tackling the Baviaanskloof, or enjoying a quiet weekend away on the coast, we design and fit rock-solid 12V / 24V and 230v mobile solar power setups that keep your lights on, your water pumps running, and your fridge freezing 24/7.

Custom-engineered mobile solar kits, dual-battery systems, and rugged fitments built to survive real South African outdoors.

caravan and trailer services

A great solar system is only as good as the technician who installs it. Loose cables create heat; uninsulated pass-throughs cause short circuits; undersized wire leads to voltage drop.

When you bring your caravan, 4×4, or off-road trailer to our workshop in Benoni, we treat your rig like our own. Our team handles complete electrical builds from scratch or cleans up messy existing factory wiring:

  • Custom Designs-Built for you: We design systems tailored to your needs and your budget.

  • Automotive-Grade Conduit & Shielding: Every wire is heat-shrinked, routed through protective conduit, and fused right at the power source.

  • Victron Bluetooth Ecosystem Setup: We program and calibrate your system before you drive out. You can monitor your exact battery state of charge, solar input, and power consumption directly from your smartphone.

  • Fault Diagnostics & Health Checks: Got an existing system acting up? We perform full diagnostic load testing and upgrade legacy AGM/Gel setups to modern lithium.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I charge my trailer battery from my 4×4 while driving?

A: Yes! But simply running a wire from your main car battery to your trailer isn’t enough anymore. Modern vehicles use smart alternators that drop voltage. We install Victron DC-to-DC chargers that boost and regulate the incoming voltage from your engine, ensuring your trailer lithium battery reaches 100% by the time you reach camp.

Q: Why should I choose Lithium (LiFePO_4) over traditional AGM or Gel batteries for camping?

A: Lithium batteries give you 100% usable capacity without damaging the cells, compared to only 50% usable power on AGM batteries. They are also up to 60% lighter—saving precious payload weight on your towing vehicle—and charge up to 4 times faster under solar.

Q: How long does a fitment take?

A: Standalone kit builds take 1–2 days. Complete custom trailer or caravan fitments typically take 2–4 days in our workshop, including full electrical testing and system calibration.

Cost effective solar

Not everyone is the same, we all have our own approach when it comes to the way we enjoy our vacation.

In some cases you may want “everything” in which you would need a large system to accomodate your requirements but more often than not there are only a few small appliances that require power and can literally run off a much simpler 12v or 24v DC system.

These cases are when all you need are lights, running a 12v fridge and need to charge phones.

The benefits of these systems is that they are much cheaper as you require much less hardware and they are easier to manage and maintain.

We can assist with these systems designed for your requirements.
